When I fell pregnant with my baby girl I felt so empowered, like a big mumma lion, to keep her safe. I wanted to make sure that the food I was putting into my body to feed her was of the purest-est (give and take a few cravings), that my health was elevated by exercising and that I was only putting pure natural products onto my skin, being that it was going to be her house for the next nine months. I naturally gave away the perfume, which wasn't hard because I had actually been living a holistic lifestyle leading up to my pregnancy, but I took it a little further, introducing some nice body oil products that used essential oils to support that forever growing tummy. Daily I used my belly rub, and I put my oil in my little oil burner daily, to support my moods and create a happy home for my partner and myself.

During my labour, pre-doTERRA, I took into the birthing ward my electric oil burner but I didn't get to turn it on, I had my lavender essential oil, room spray, aromatherapy body wash scented with Jasmine, yum, and my belly rub. Each time a midwife entered the room they loved the way the room felt and where automatically relaxed. My mum came in during the labour to support me and used the lavender on the flannel to help calm and soothe my feelings and my nausea. I loved having with me essential oils although a small amount, but it still created a beautiful memory on what was one of the best days of my life. We carried on using the oils at home, a friend brought me a calm child blend and I would put that in the oil burner for the little lady and myself. I would go to the health food store a couple of times a week and purchase oils with what I could afford. I dabbled here and there and supported my emotions with these incredible smells. Then I met doTERRA.... and we fell in love at first sight!

I was scrolling through Instagram one day and came across this stunning picture of bergamot essential oil and the emotional benefits and I was in awe, I needed that oil, so I contacted the person, Karen. We hooked up for a chat over the phone and my very low budget grew overnight. You see, I was a single parent at the time on a very low income and in a very unstable environment, but I knew that I still had that strong calling to support my little girl naturally and through my past experience with essential oils I knew that they worked and where a great support and, f*** if all else failed I knew they smelt amazing! So I bought my kit, which came from the United States at the time, and I have never looked back. It arrived on a day when my little girl, two at the time, was really unwell. I grabbed my spaceship looking diffuser (things have evolved since then) plugged it in, dropped in this oil called "On Guard" the protective blend. Soon my daughter was up, active and happy, for a short amount of time, before going back to rest!! I was soooo happy, this spicy citrus oil made my heart skip a beat, which it hadn't done in so long. From that very moment I grabbed my books and began empowering myself with each essential oil and how I could use them around the home. I had no idea that essential oils could be used in so many different ways and that doTERRA was a Certified Therapeutic Grade which meant I could use them topically, aromatically and internally (please seek guidance first). I began making my own cleaning products, skin care, because I couldn't afford much but yet rewarded myself with the incredible essential oils (lavender and frankincense, amazing). I felt supported in my moods and most of all protected. There were days that where super bloody tough, parenting was the easy part, surviving was what was hard. So I found great respite in putting my diffuser on with citrus oils, comforting blends, and loved having a lavender-infused bath with my daughter.

I went back to study as a health coach and worked two separate jobs so I could support my daughter, and to keep me social as I found being a single parent very isolating. Intune, the focus blend, basil and peppermint became very close friends with me, helping me to stay focused and pick me up when my energy was low, and then my frankincense and Balance, to bring me back down at the end of a long shift. I didn't mind what they cost, I saw the true value in the essential oils from day one PLUS they reduced the costs around my home is so many ways, from health to general home bills. For three years I have ordered monthly using the loyalty reward program, and my family would agree that this is the longest time I have ever committed to something! I welcome the man who drops my parcel off with essential oils, and products that improve and support our well being, with excitement, not remorse, and my freebies, yes freebies.... they are super generous with their rewards program.

I began to open my heart again and to trust that everything was going to be OK, and reworked my inner soul to believe that I was beautiful, and loveable the way I was and that I do deserve the best. The night that I met my partner I wore the oil of the inner child, the beautiful ylang ylang that gave me the strength to have fun and confidence. Now he also gets to use the oils for supporting his airways, digestive complaints, skin and even asked if I had an oil for mozzies.......um duh of course...hehe, love ya!

If I was to keep writing and tell you how many times a day I use essential oils around the home, on my skin and for my mood and immune system, we would need a few hours together. The beauty of using essential oils in your life is that you add value, you teach the ones around you how to take action from a place of strength when making choices about your health and wellness, not from a place of worry and lack of control. You take a proactive approach to life and in return feel well, and when you don't feel well or worried, sick, tired, pissed off, annoyed, flat or generally ungrounded, you have support in an oil that you choose because you know what's best for yourself.

Play, have fun and use your oils, that's how we roll.....literally. And, as I write this these beautiful little oils have just gifted me something else, financial freedom. Now I am a full time business leader with doTERRA who has finally given away her single parenting income...now that is another blog post on its own me thinks

In love and health

Sammy

P.S ~ Here are some recipes that I just love, and have used over and over again during the past three years:

Love at first sight:

5ml Roller Bottle

3 Drops of Ylang Ylang

1 Drop of Myrhh

2 Drops of Grapefruit (avoid sunlight)

Top up with Fractionated coconut oil

Immune support

4 Drops of On Guard Essential Oil into a diffuser

* Add two drops of Frankincense to magnify if there are some terrible lurgies going around

Focus & Control

2 Drops of Basil

2 Drops of Wild Orange

2 Drops of Lemon

2 Drops of Peppermint

Add to a diffuser or to a 10ml roller bottle and apply when needed

Homemade face toner

5 Drops of Geranium, Frankincense, and Lavender into a small glass spritzer bottle. I personally love winter as for me it brings shorter days so earlier to bed, warm comforting food and a time to catch up from the first half of the year. Does anyone else feel like that? As we step into July its almost a fall or flop, and a chance to just rest and catch our breathe. I personally love winter as for me it brings shorter days so earlier to bed, warm comforting food and a time to catch up from the first half of the year. Does anyone else feel like that? As we step into July its almost a fall or flop, and a chance to just rest and catch our breathe.

Unfortunately with artificial heating, lighting, life and work requirements and the need to access food, goods and everything all year round, the human race is becoming more and more disconnected which leads to "dis-ease" and bodies and hormones that are distressed. In winter we should be embracing the slower days, reserving our energy and reconnecting with the natural rhythms of life so we feel rejuvenate and realigned with what is to come, and flourish in the following months.

In this first part of Embracing Winter Within I thought we would begin in the home as this is where we will be spending most of our time, nourishing and nurturing our bodies.

I begin each morning with this immune boosting tincture. It will support your digestion and your immune system by warming and gently detoxifying the liver.

Each morning, upon rising, set the intention to support your body with health and wellness and pour:

1/2 Teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar

1/4 Squeeze of Lemon

Pinch of Cayenee pepper

Place into a tea cup and top up with water that is just off boiling point. Now sipping on this doesn't need to just happen in the morning you can use it any time of the day.

Caffeine

With the weather cooling down it is temping to have an extra cup of coffee throughout the day but in all honesty you really are doing more damage than what it is worth. In actual fact it puts an awful lot of stress on the body sending in into a flight or fight response. Picture it like this, if this helps when you have your second coffee, you are injecting straight adrenalin into your body that you most likely won't use, in actual fact you won't, one cup is always enough and because we are naturally slowing down in alignment and rhythm of winter, our body doesn't need that extra energy so it then puts pressure on your adrenal glands causing it to fatigue, and the scariest one, creates anxious feelings. Choose where possible warming drinks that will support your digestion. Beautiful herbal teas I love, Pukkah, Yogi tea, Turmeric Lattes, Chai Lattes and Green or white tea in moderation. Invite a friend around, grab your granny blankets out and sit and chat over a pot of tea.

In the kitchen:

Introducing some good quality ghee (clarified butter) or coconut oil into your diet is very beneficial. Coconut oil is a powerful antimicrobial so will support the immune system during winter and ghee has been used for thousands of years in the Ayurvedic tradition to support the body in healing and thriving. Both of these oils are very similar in many ways. They are fabulous to cook with having a high smoke point, support the body to cleanse, aid in weight loss, reduce the inflammation within the body and support bring more wellness into our lives. I personally have swapped over to ghee this week and cook all my dishes including: chicken, sauté veggies, add to rice dishes, scrambled eggs and will add a teaspoon to either my coffee of tea to help build my immune system.

Reduce the sugar intake, once again we want gentle energy going into the body and to help move past those cravings, begin to crowd in some more leafy greens. In Chinese medicine winter is a time to tonify the kidneys and look after the bones. Bone broths are highly recommended primarily to support the bones and immune system, but to also help calm the body when it is in a stress response or feeling ungrounded. It is also a good time to start cooking your meals over longer periods of time with less water and a lower heat to support the digestive system and this too will represent the energy you want your body to feel and align too. Below are some suggestions for foods, herbs and spices you might like to consider stocking your pantry with:

Reducing the toxins in your home is vital as we are spending more time indoors with less windows and doors open circulating lovely fresh air. Toxins in your home account for 90% of all reported poisonings each year. Not to mention increase in asthma and allergies Did you know the air in our homes are 2-5 times more toxic than the air outside? Most pollutants in our home come from chemical compounds that we use to clean our bodies and homes with. Making your own cleaning products are easy, cost effective and doesn't damage your health.

Isn't lighting a candle just joyous and such a beautiful ritual during winter on those darker cooler nights? I for one absoltuetlty love it as it promotes a calming environment and signifies to me that I have finished work for the day. My suggestion for you, if you are candle crazy like me, is to be mindful what they are made from and scented with. Most are made with a toxic paraffin wax, which creates highly toxic benzene and toluene when burned both are known carcinogens. Candles that are scented are generally scented with synthetic fragrances which carry undesired chemicals and cause more damage that really making your home smell nice should do. So where possible choose or make candles with bees wax and unscented steering away from synthetic fragrances. We enjoy some beeswax candles in our home and our diffuser (naturally, being oil addicts) to scent and create a calming environment.

Check out your local garden centre also and bring some of nature indoors not only do plants create natural life force they are oxygen promoting and break down toxins in the environment.

This wraps up part one of Embracing Winter Within. Hmmmm. A little bit about me... I always find this question SUPER tricky because I find it hard to define "who I am" without getting all philosophical and shit. Because if someone asked me that ordinarily, I would say that I am "spirit manifesting itself in a human body, looking for fun ways to interact with the world". But if I am to define myself I would have to say that I am.... Silly. Highly sexual. A STRONG Scorpio. An energy healer. A writer. A lover of all things that come from the Earth- plants, flowers, mud. My path here in this lifetime is walking the shamanic path, teaching people how to connect with spirit (the wisdom that exists within every single one of us) to create a better world... a world founded upon love, compassion and respect for the Earth.

My passion is in teaching... I get off on helping people understand that underneath all of the shit that we have been taught, we are divine beings, here to learn how to love, DEEPLY

How long have you been using essential oils:

I have been using oils all of my life (my mum used to cover me in lavender before school and everyone would tell me I stank). Doterra though? Hmmm I have been using them since my trip to Nepal in... 2013! Whoa! That's about 4 years ago now.

How would you describe your life now from using oils:

My life now? Hmmm it was hard to imagine my life before... But before, whenever I travelled, finding natural healing remedies that I could travel with that didn't make my luggage 50kg heavier was a nightmare... I would carry around a litre of colloidal silver whenever I went to third world countries, activated charcoal... blah, blah. So much stuffff. Now, with the oils, it's all in one place. And they're so god damn portable! I love them. I forget just HOW much I love them until I don't have them and then start losing my shit a little. I love that I can just put one drop of peppermint on the back of my tongue and inhale and my chest expands and I start to skip, instead of feeling flat and heavy.

So in a nutshell, it's crazy better. I feel more alive using them. And I feel like an bit of a witchy poo too, which is fun. My favourite thing is to sit on a train in Melbourne and to walk up to a stranger and give them a sample. Or to whip them out somewhere and just smell them and watch everyone turning around to try and find where the smell is coming from. I have had one cup of tea, a strong coffee and put a load of washing on. I am about to make the beds, clean the rabbit cage, serve breakfast and vacuum the rabbit shit off the floor.

As I stand next to my bed I take a moment to think about how do I want my day to go, how do I want to feel? Is having some zen today impossible because Miss 4 is home from school, tired and irritated from not feeling well? I take one look at my mala beads I was wearing yesterday, with one big bad ass clear quartz, and in that moment I create in my mind that today I am going to have a zen day.

Creating some Zen is possible, it's all in how you create it. You can implement this anywhere, anytime, even in the work place.

Zen 1:

Don't assume it is going to be a bad day because one thing has gone bad, don't expect that the all mighty grey cloud will hang over the rest of your day or even the week. Choose how you want to feel, and when something crosses your path that you don't like, say "I am not triggered by that".

Zen 2:

Wear some mala beads or crystal jewelry. Mala beads are a set of beads that have traditionally been used in prayer and meditation. Often called prayer beads anyone can wear this beautiful piece of jewellery.
You don't have to be religious or have any spiritual practice. You simply wear them to remind you of your zen intention. This is my favourite thing to do, to channel my inner monk, and 9/10 times I have been given them as a gift, or bought them in a time in my life that was special, so I wear them with Zen pride.

Zen 3:

Put a batik cloth, or sarong over your tv for the day. Steer away from technology and instead engage in the day. I love also picking some frangipanis and put them around my house, like around the kitchen sink, next to the tv, hall stand and in the bathroom. Channel your inner Bali goddess and if you are at work throw a sarong over your chair, some frangipanis next to your computer and soak it up.

Zen 4:

Diffuse essential oil or essence in the home. Yummy yummy, a house that smells relaxing, stays relaxing. I enjoy using both and the majority of the time it's in my diffuser that is running throughout the day as it is safe around myself (no chance of burning the house down) and my daughter. Oils I enjoy to create some calm are: Lavender Peace, Vetiver, Cedarwood, Petitgran, Patchouli, Ylang Ylang, Sandalwood, Bergamot, Douglas Fir and Wild Orange. Our choice of incense is a pure Whit Sage to help cleanse the environment and ourselves especially when we may have been triggered by something negative.

Zen 5:

Plants honey, yes plants, can make the inside of the home healthier and create zen. They create fresh oxygen, fantastic feng shui and can be a mindful practise. They bring zen automatically, with there luscious relaxing green coloured leaves and break down toxins in the environment. So, on those not so zen days, make it a habit to go around and water your plants mindfully. Apparently, it also helps them to grow if you speak kindly to them.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com.au/entry/best-houseplants-destress_n_2964013

Zen 6:

Create an alter or two in your home. This is a place that even if you only get the time to walk past, will bring you back into zen intent. I have several alters set up around my house, as being a mother you don't get your own space until the kids leave home. I like to use my hall stand, bedside table and even a small space in my bathroom to place beautiful little trinkets of zen. Things like pictures, crystals, statues, flowers, leaves, feathers or incense. Anything that represents your journey at the present moment. If you need a little inspo head to my interest board of sacred spaces and alters

Zen 7:

Wear some essential oils on your body. Oils like doterra Salubelle, Sandalwood, Patchouli and Cedarwood. Anoint these on to your wrists, temples and over your heart with some carrier oil. To really draw down into your zen badass mother body, put some Forgive or Balance on your feet. Carry these in a roller bottle to keep that feeling anchored throughout the day.

Zen 8:

Search a playlist on spotify, something like chill out buddha bar radio, spa music, tibetan singing bowls or what ever is your style, put it on lightly in the back ground.

Zen 9:

Find a practise that you have every single day that creates your inner zen. This is one thing that happens even though your child is vomiting, partner has the man flu, you are called into work or its a lemon of a day, that you stick to. Yes, I know it's hard but remember step one is your choice. For me its my morning cup of tea and journalling. For you it could be a hot shower, a listen to a personal empowering podcast, cooking, writing, drawing or hitting the beach.

Zen 10:

Put up some affirmations around your home. I have pieces of art work hanging, or things on my fridge, that bring me back into the moment. I also schedule quotes and affirmations on my phone, to go off during the day (I know total zen geek) but it is such a beautiful way to remind myself.

Zen Mother Master

Sammy

Work together to create a life with less discomfort and more alignment with vibrant health

DIY Autumn body scrub

Cooler mornings, warmer clothes, more cups of tea and earlier nights...Ahhh autumn you rejoice me. In Chinese medicine Autumn is associated with the lungs and is all about letting go. It is a time to start to prepare to go inward, ready to hibernate for the winter. Emotions that can come forth are grief and sadness, and it is a time to move forward and let go, emotionally and physically, to what no longer serves us. With the lungs in mind, keep taking in new opportunities and feelings, remember to keep your chest well protected, pay mindful attention to your toxin levels focussing on the large intestines. As we allow new energy to come in, we also must allow for it to be released. Stay well hydrated, to avoid the skin from becoming dry and the mind from becoming irritated.

The essential oil I have chosen for Autumn represent to me love, release and freedom. Geranium - The oil for love and trust. This oil, personally, I use for times when I need some support emotionally. It helps me to balance my moods, regain trust and soothes any irritation caused by suppressed anger. Physically, it promotes healing of the skin, normalises sebum production, is antiseptic and astringent. Cypress - The oil of letting go. Tonifying on the skin a beautiful oil to support oily skin as it is highly astringent and a natural support for detoxifying. I use this often when I feel pulled down energetically by sadness, grief or have trouble letting go of a mood, or even something someone has said to me. Frankincense - The oil of truth and an oil that has been used for hundreds of years to support the skin. This delicious oil is so divine on the skin and supports it by repairing and rejuvenating at a cellular level. Comforting and fortifying on every level, it instills tranquility and frees the spirit.

DIY Autumn Body Scrub

Ingredients:

3/4 cup raw organic sugar or organic coconut sugar 1/4 - 1/2 cup Fractionated Coconut Oil - You choose your consistency

* In place of Fractionated coconut oil you could use grapeseed oil. 3x drops CPTG Geranium 3x drops CPTG Cypress

3x drops CPTG Frankincense 230ml Glass Jar to store in

Add sugar and desired amount of fractionated coconut oil to glass jar. With suffering from fatigue, stress and lack of energy it is important that we go about our days with some sort of order. Starting the day with a gentle routine will help keep you aligned and balanced for the day ahead. Now my morning "routine" may look different to yours but what I hope from sharing this with you, is it will give you inspiration to start your own.

My morning always starts with my daughter waking me u, very seldom do I have the opportunity to rise on my own clock, and in my house we let sleeping dogs lie! So generally around 6am I hear the sweet whispers of my 4 year old "time to wake up my beautiful mummy", ok maybe its more like "let's get up...now" Then its off to the kettle, and breakfast for my daughter. I always start my morning with a big squeeze of lemon in a cup of warm water to hydrate and stimulate my inner workings or a couple of drops of lemon essential oil. This has been in my routine for many years, ever since I saw my first Naturopath when I was 19 years old. For all the years I travelled overseas and over east, I never let go of the routine. I don't have much fire in my belly and tend to hold a lot of stress, so my beautiful little body needs a helping hand to eliminate and detox after a restful night sleep.

I then spend a minute or two walking around the house opening the windows, doors and blinds to allow the flow of air and light through the house (good Feng Shui) and welcome in the new day. I choose either some white sage to burn to cleanse the environment or put the diffuser on with essential oils appropriate to for our mood and health.

Now, here is where I have changed my routine over the last few weeks. Previously I would have sat down and grabbed my phone and started to troll social media, listen to ABC for kids and my daughter bark orders at me. Now she is allowed iPad time (sue me) and I go out the front to one of my favourite spots in the house, my rickety old porch. The sun is still rising over the neighbours houses and the air is slightly cooler. I sit down on my old red verandah chair, with my hot cup of tea, and here is where I pick up my pen and begin to journal in my little black book. Journaling gives me the space to express my self, write my to do list, if needs be, and get all the information that is so heavy and weighing me down sub-consciously onto paper. Don't be afraid of journaling because of what your family will think or because you feel like you have nothing to say, you will be surprised. Taking the first couple of minutes to write everything that comes to mind like, the crappy night sleep, the annoying partner, the beautiful birds cheeping, the to-do list, whatever comes to mind first. Then once I spend some time just flowing with what hits the paper, this is where magic can be born, the hidden thought and creative treasures. In my journal I have also some scripts that I repeat to myself which I implemented from "Think, Grow, Rich" a fantastic book on wealth consciousness which everyone should read. You could also put in some powerful affirmations or pictures of what remind you of your goals and how you want to feel each day.

After the journaling I then spend at least 15minutes reading what ever book is on my radar at the moment, something along the lines of self development. This to me is my filling up of my soul cup, it fulfils me, without depleting me.

Then its time to have a shower while the clock is still looking good, if I leave this step too late I rush what can sometimes be a mummas saving grace, a nice hot shower. Once I have finished my shower I grab my fractionated coconut oil and select an essential oil or two which I would like to use to create an aromatic anchor for the day. For example if my moods are low and I am attacking myself because she can't usually fight back I will use Bergamot - The oil of self acceptance. Feeling a little flighty - Balance a lovely grounding oil or my hormones need some love and so do I - Geranium the Oil of Love and Trust. This is an important step in my routine. Following my intuition, asking myself how do I want to feel today and using the essential oils on my skin with a carrier oil helps raise my vibrational frequency and heck, it sure does make you smell good!

Then it's time to create some lunch box magic, ask my daughter to get dressed 10 times and head off to school. As you can see from my routine it's not too strenuous, but instead rewarding to myself. It is an act of kindness, making my own spirit, and day, happy. I hope from sharing this it will inspire you to create and cultivate your own morning routine and rituals.

Tips for aligning and creating a morning ritual:

1. Be prepared the night before - fill the kettle, put the journal out, clean up the kitchen (less excuses).

2. Set the alarm, if you need to rise earlier than your family to find some peace, so be it.

3. Use essential oils - These are great aromatic anchor to shift moods, inspire and rejuvenate the weary soul.

4. Find a space that you can use every day to help set the routine. A chair in the lounge room, under a tree out the back, maybe the beach if you have the ability. Just keep it the same place every day to save the time and keep the routine.

5. Give yourself permission - Allowing yourself 30minutes in the morning to start your day, with alignment before action, will help you achieve more abundance, health and wellness.

If you have any questions or need guidance to get your mornings started flick @thewholewayhome an email today

Sammy

Eating with intuition

I was sitting outside of the local fruit and vegetable shop with my at the time two year old and all I could do was cry. How was life so messed up and how come I felt so sick all the time, what was wrong with me? I ate all the right foods, didn't drink alcohol, exercised but felt so physically sick.

I had just driven from my appointment where I went and saw a local GP. I hadn't been feeling well and, well, I was sick and tired of it literally. I was under weight, suffered from dizzy spells throughout the day and had reoccurring candida in my eyes, nose and ears. I felt fatigued all the time which was pretty common for a new mum but I just knew that I didn’t want to keep feeling unwell all the time, that’s not what life is all about is it? So in I went to tell the GP all about my symptoms, feeling rather vulnerable but not as useless as she made me feel when she said you just have to live with it. What! Live with my hair falling out, fatigue, low body weight, short tempers, dizzy spells, low blood pressure, chronic itching scalp and irritable bowel which was the biggest health concern of all. She told me that there was no such thing as candida, that only people with HIV have it and that my blood pressure was something I would have to live with. I was in shock sitting there, it took so much courage to finally make the proactive decision to do something about my health. I was on a single pension so putting myself first was a big decision, and also I knew deep down inside that something wasn’t right.

Then it dawned on me, I was seeking advice from a professional who didn’t know a thing about me, she didn’t even ask me how I was? Truth be told if she had asked me that one vital question “How are you?” we may have gotten to the root cause. I had been so busy looking on the outside for the cure that I didn’t bother to listen to my inner voice, my intuition. Instead I was listening to the “you know what you should do" people, feeding me eliminating diets, cleanses and diet protocols. I wasn’t allowed to eat a raw apple because it wasn’t good for my blood type, and heaven forbid I have some bread, even the sourdough types, yikes that is just full of sugar and yeast!

This was what was happening when I found myself sitting outside of the veggie shop in the car park. Being a Mum and studying, working 3 jobs, I felt robbed that I couldn’t firstly, nourish my body with an apple and secondly, enjoy it, because it wasn’t allowed in that so called diet, god talk about a guilt trip of failure over an apple. It was at that very moment I thought “I've got this”, I know how my body works and what it needs. It needs to trust again, reduce the stress and be happy with the choices I'm making. I had the tools and knowledge from years of being a wholefoodie, and studying, and the biggest tool of all is that I knew what my body and mind needed after living in it for 30 plus years.

When I weighed it up choosing to live intuitively with my eating was going to cost me far less in the long run. It gave me the control back, reduced my stress and gave me my gut power back, my inner voice saying, “you got this, sister!” What I've learnt and studied is that everyone is a bio-Individual. Take what you need and work with what you've got. I like a raw apple, actually I love one, and it helps me get through the day as a mum. I know my digestion doesn't so much, so I give it a helping hand with some digestive enzymes or a warm cup of ginger tea. I know I can't eat late at night and I know my body only eats when it's hungry, I'm not a 3 meal everyday kinda gal. I love a cooked breakfast and basically have worked out what works for me and what doesn't. Food is such a huge part of our life, our day, our wellbeing. Listen to your "gut" with what works well for you. I appreciate the medical industry and health professionals, this is by no means a discredit on them. Just spend sometime, firstly,to have a listen to what your intuition is telling you, because remember that old saying, “listen to your gut”, well, yes it could be right!

Sammyx

Check out The Whole You - 90 Day Health Coaching Package today

Less diets, more aligned living

How to make your own detox bath

Running yourself a bath is one of life's simple pleasures. Is it so hard to complete one act a day for ourselves with complete love and with no guilt attached. The problem we are facing is the stigma attached to selfcare. Going to the spa, having a treatment, pampering ourselves. Of course these are all lovely things that help us to cope, unwind and switch off but they can be expensive and not always possible. To me selfcare became vital when I became a mother, it meant that if I was to become unwell or mentally not have the capacity to cope then that would make my daughter struggle. I also wanted to be empowered to take my health into my own hands and create small rituals that would better my present moment and future for myself and my daughter. Looking at self care to help you stay healthy and to help the healing process is a practical approach and the most beneficial.

Some Areas of Self Care:

KEEPING A JOURNAL

Writing in a journal daily or even just three times a week can help create space. It downloads all the little files you have open and clears old data and in some cases reboots where required.

OPEN GRATITUDE

Or what I like to call flip it sister! When times get tough take a moment to think of 1-5 things you are grateful for. “today I am grateful for the running hot water I use to wash away my worries, this to shall pass”.

FOOD

Food is often over looked in selfcare but it is actually the easiest form. We all have to eat right? What happens when you don't eat the right food?. Tired, anxious, irritated, guilty. So why not make better choices? Maybe each day you make an agreement to yourself to have something green? Maybe its that you sit down when you eat and switch off technology? Eat the food with love and grace only attach positive affirmations whilst eating if you think its bad it will end up being bad. The simple act of kindness by only feeding your body the best possible “option” is an act in self care

alone.

SLEEP

Hugely important. Pick one night per week that you go to bed early or one day a week you can have a “lady lay down”. Giving your body time to restore is a great gift, it helps reduce sugar cravings, unmanageable moods and reduces health problems.

MOVE THAT BODY

This can be done any way you like. Jogging, gym, yoga, cleaning the house, walking up the stairs at work. Love the body you are in, exercising creates health and raises moods.

RELAXATION

Running a bath with essential oils

Diffusing a lovely blend just for you and your emotional journey.

Putting music on you enjoy when cooking

Meditating each day for 5 mindful minutes

Go outside and connect with the earth we walk on

Sit under a tree

Get some vitamin D

Light some candles

MEDICAL & EMOTIONAL SELF CARE

Investing in yourself is vital for survival. Seek help when required be that medical attention, a clinical worker, a life coach or holistic healer. These people are trained to look after your deeper self and will give feedback on parts where you need to make attention.

NON - NEGOTIABLES

Write 3 Non-negotiables each week to achieve self care. Keep them simple here is an example and you can download a free PDF to get you started today.

This week I will:

1: Go to the gym 3 times

2: Drink a green drink every day

3: Go to bed one night before 8pm

4: Take myself on a coffee date

5: Take a bath

Most of all be kind to yourself everyday.

Sammy x

Need some selfcare inspiration? join over on Facebookand Instagram every Sunday for

What is a Health Coach?

Health is a state of complete harmony of the body, mind and spirit.
